On March 21st, he signed Public Law 503 which was approved after an hour discussion in the Senate and 30 minutes in the House. In 1942, he was 22 years old when on February 19th, President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066. And where saloons often prohibited women, they were encouraged at speakeasies because of the added profits. There were a lot of them and they were very popular. Speakeasies, also called a blind pig or blind tiger, were "so called because of the practice of speaking quietly about such a place in public, or when inside it, so as not to alert the police or neighbors". ![]() After the 18th Amendment was ratified and selling alcohol became illegal, saloons closed and speakeasies took their place. In 1920, in the year that David J Masson was born, speakeasies replaced saloons as the center of social activity.
